How To Use OpenCart to Sell Digital Goods i.e. Downloads of Files

Downloads can be digital goods of any type: mp3 files, video files, PDFs, and so on. After their orders have reached the “Complete” status, customers can download their products from their account page. You can change this setting in the administration panel by going to System->Settings->Options tab, then look for “Order Status” and “Download Order Status”.

Your downloads are also uploaded through the the admin panel, under Catalog->Downloads. You can also set the number of times each file can be downloaded by the customer. This file can then be linked to the product (go to the “Data” tab in the product area).

Note: The downloadable files are kept in the “downloads” directory, but an extra token (a long string of digits) is added as an extension to the original file as a security measure to prevent unauthorised downloading.
